Physiotherapy

You should wear comfortable clothing which will allow access by the therapist to the injured body part eg if you have a sore knee it would be easier to wear shorts or pants that will pull up over your knee. Bring along any information relevant to the treatment eg Xrays, MRIs, reports and possibly a list of the drugs you might be taking.

A standard treatment will take approximately 30 minutes. The physiotherapist will initially:

  • Question the patient about history of the injury and the current symptoms
  • Observe and assess movement
  • Diagnose the problem
  • Develop a treatment regime to address the problem
  • Teach the patient any necessary exercises and advice about management of the condition
  • Reassess treatment goals each visit and adjust the treatment and home program as appropriate

We very much appreciate being told if you are unable to attend or if you no longer require an appointment. In fairness to those who want an appointment but can’t get in, we reserve the right to charge you for your treatment if you do not cancel an appointment with at least two hours notice and do not attend.

No, you are able to come to physiotherapy and claim it on your health fund without a referral from your doctor. Our HICAPS claiming system means that you are able to get your health fund rebate immediately after your treatment and only pay the gap. People who are wanting to claim their treatments through Medicare, Workcover or Veterans affairs will, however, require a referral. Call our friendly administration staff if you are in any doubt. We work closely with the local doctors and frequently work in partnership with them following referral.
